Hello there, I'm Sofia

I work as a project manager and am a parent, living as an expat in Madrid, Spain.

A few years ago I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually opened a new chapter of life overseas.

How It Started

Moving to Spain wasn’t part of the long-range plan. Like many international relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far bigger.

The first months were intense — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complex than they should.

The Transition Phase

There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning. Gradually, routines took shape. We found spots that fit us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.

Why I Created ThriveAbroad Family

Most online information fell into either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was lacking was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.

This site aims to bridge that gap — pragmatic advice drawn from real life in Spain.

What This Site Is (And Isn't)

This site IS:

  • Hands-on insights from living in Spain
  • Centered on family life and daily realities
  • Updated whenever something truly changes

This site ISN'T:

  • Not a tourism authority resource
  • Paid review platform
  • A generic travel blog

Looking Ahead

Our stay in Spain goes on, and the learning journey continues. As long as the information is helpful, I’ll keep recording what we uncover.

If you have questions about family life in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Cheers,

Sofia
